This car is a nice driver.
You'll be surprised by how rock-solid it is; the transmission
is one of the best and quietest I've ever driven in an SPF
Coupe. Peter Brock
UNDER
THE ENGINE DECK
Roush 402R Ford small-block
V8
Rugged
& reliable Roush powerplant (4-bolt main cast-iron block,
4"x4" bore & stroke) is equipped with:
- '185'
AFR alloy heads
- Eagle crank
- Roush roller hydraulic
cam (good for 6,200 rpm)
- Edelbrock 4 bbl. manifold
- Holley 770 cfm carburetor
- Wiseco pistons (fitted
with moly rings)
- Ford H-beam rods
- Roush rates the engine
at 501 bhp at 5,900 rpm, 580 ft./lbs. torque at 4,900 rpm;
Exhaust: tuned four-into-one SPF headers w/BRE-modified
and custom-fitted side exit exhaust system (weight savings of
18 lbs. (8 kg) w/increased power and less heat retention)
"The
402R is one of the nicer Roush engines, as it doesn't
exhibit cooling snags associated with some stroker V8s. We're
here near Las Vegas where the ambient temperatures are in the
90°100° (Fahrenheit; 3238° Celsius))
range and this piece stays exactly where it should at 200°F
indicated with oil at 220°F, which is perfect, since it doesn't
allow any water condensation to accumulate in the oil. It has
SPF's standard integrated oil/water heat exchanger built into
the alloy radiator." Peter Brock

A lot of guys dream of owning
one of Ford's great GT40s, but when they learn the Daytonas were
actually faster when they ran against the GT40s in late '64 and
'65 and these modern versions are far more comfortable and suitable
as real, usable GTs the reality soon becomes evident that these
modern versions of the classic Daytona Coupe, with their
3" longer wheelbase and improved aerodynamics are really
much better, more occupant-friendly cars for the street than
any of the GT40 replicas.
This particular
example in red is actually traditional in color, as one of the
factory racers (CSX2602) ran at the Nürburgring in '64 under
the Swiss Scuderia Filipinetti red & white racing
colors (remembered as "The #59 Coupe").
