SAAC is the only national (indeed, worldwide) enthusiast organization dedicated to the cars from Carroll Shelby: Cobra roadsters and coupes, GT350s, GT500s, Ford GT40s - as well as virtually every other Ford-powered performance car: Sunbeam Tigers, Mustangs of all descriptions from 1964 1/2 to the present day 5.0 Liter Cobras, Boss 302s - 351s- 429s, Mangustas, Panteras, Griffiths, Cobra replicas--you name it and if it's powered by a Ford powerplant and goes like a rocket, you'll probably see one at a SAAC meet!

SAAC has a membership base of nearly 6,000, representing every state of the U.S. and every province of Canada, as well as Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

SAAC publishes The Shelby American magazine, which has been widely acclaimed as one of the finest motorcar enthusiast club publications in the world. Each issue features articles contributed by members which cover a wide variety of subjects including: questions-and-answers, technical how-to articles, new products, historical articles, interviews, event reports, vintage race reports, literature, collectibles and models. Each issue contains over 100 photographs. A subscription to The Shelby American magazine is included in your SAAC membership, sent airmail to you anywhere in the world.

SAAC also publishes The Snakebite Bulletin, a bi-monthly newsletters sent to you via First Class Mail. Classified ads are free to members with no word limit. Each issue carries hundreds of ads for cars, parts and wanteds, a national calendar of events, late breaking club news and a stolen car hotline. The Snakebite Bulletin is also included with your membership.

SAAC hosts an action-packed Annual National Convention each summer, rotating it around the United States. You've probably already heard about these: more than 3,500 people attend with upwards of 1000 cars at a professional racing facility the club rents for three days of activities. SAAC members have run their cars at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Watkins Glen, Portland International Raceway, Laguna Seca, Pocono, Mid-Ohio, Sears Point, Willow Springs, and Charlotte. Convention activities include open track running, popular vote and concours car shows, parts swap, guest speakers and sometimes drag racing and drivers' schools. Carroll Shelby customarily attends and has been known to give rides to members in a 427 Cobra or GT350 R-Model.

SAAC also has well-organized and active regions across the U.S. Each region hosts events which are tuned to the desires of local members. Activities commonly include car shows, parts swaps, picnics, open tracks and socials.

SAAC World Registry: About every 5-10 years SAAC publishes a (comprehensive!!) World Registry containing historical and owner information on every car built by Carroll Shelby. The next edition is due to be completed in 1997.

SAAC member safeguards: SAAC helps members authenticate genuine Shelby Mustangs and Cobras and assists them in steering clear of fakes and counterfeits; we're of course referring not to replicas (the increasingly popular Cobra roadster, Daytona Coupe and GT40 reproductions, for example) but rather to illicit efforts to alter original, factory-stock Ford Mustangs to pass as original Shelby GT350s and GT500s. The club also assists members in obtaining special stated-value insurance for their cars at reasonable rates and provides letters verifying the value of cars at no charge.

Since 1975 SAAC has been actively and intimately involved with the cars built by Carroll Shelby. If you're interested in these legendary machines of the 1960s, you'll benefit by joining the Shelby American Automobile Club.
