Gone south to a happy new owner in Blowing Rock, North Carolina... and only a couple of days after my ad went up on CobraCountry!

They say that money can't buy you love, but in my case a couple hundred bucks and change for my ad netted me an experienced, steadfast friend (Curt) who guided me every step of the way through the process. Dear Cobra Country:

You can mark my HCS Daytona Coupe SOLD!

Thanks to your site and its first-rate resources my HCS Coupe now resides in Kansas City with its new owner. All this happened in just over a week on CobraCountry! I had more than a half dozen callers in the first few days alone.

Your site's expert photography instructions and Curt's personal "Coupe-specific" photography tips paid HUGE dividends in marketing my Coupe... for both me and its lucky new owner! If I may quote Mark Twain: "I never learned anything while I was talking."

I appreciate Curt's taking the time to walk me step-by-step through how to capture great photos of my car. The Coupe is now gone but Curt's advice is here to stay. I thank him so much for his patience with me during this adventure.

You can mark my Egyptian Orange hot-rodded Cobra SOLD! Gone to a lucky (and elated!) new owner in Denver, Colorado.

This is essentially the 4th time my sleek serpent has sold on CobraCountry... only the first 3 sales last season fell through due to a string of fluke derailments having nothing to do with the car.

But it was scooped up w/o a hitch within only a couple of weeks after I started up my ad back up for this year's spring 'roadster season.'

Many thanks for Cobra Country's effectiveness in connecting Cobra buyers with Cobra sellers!

Dear Cobra Country:

You can mark that Gunmetal Gray Metallic B&B Cobra SOLD! Headed for faraway Switzerland!

Kathy and I not only connected with a true Cobra aficionado (who flew here to see and drive the car), but gained a wonderful new friend as well. Stephan (we share the same first name!) put our Cobra through its paces and promised to do the same in the Swiss and Italian Alps.

All the while we had another serious buyer waiting in the wings in Texas; we had to let him know that the next stop for our gray ghost is way up in the Swiss Alps.

Many thanks to your site's celebrated 'market reach,' and especially to your photography tips. I followed Curt's tips as closely as I could, and my photos inspired a Cobra enthusiast in distant Switzerland to fly in and see and test drive and purchase my car.

15 March 2013

Dear Cobra Country:

You can mark Superformance #SPO2815 SOLD! It took just over 24 hrs., funds wired and received on Wednesday.

Shipper picked up today (5 days after my ad went up). Great buyer in sunny California bought site-unseen based only on my photos. This is the second Cobra that I've sold (for all practical purposes within 24 hrs.) on Cobra Country.

I've been flooded with calls all week. I had two backup offers and both buyers were extremely disappointed that they missed out. Everyone complimented me on how gorgeous my car is!! Curt's photo tips and his follow-up assistance sold the car as much as the car itself did.

A huge THANK-YOU!! I quote the buyer: "It's evident from the effort you put into your photos that the car must be in great condition."

My advice to Cobra sellers is to follow your photo tips without exception... preferably with a good camera. Bottom line, as you know all the writing in the world is worthless without great photos.

ONCE AGAIN A HUGE, HUGE THANK YOU!!! Not only for selling my Cobra but the whole process of coaching me on my photos. I don't know what it is a about Cobra guys but I never met a bad one.

You can mark my gorgeous Guardsman Blue E.R.A. Cobra SOLD!

It sold in less than a month on your site; in that brief period I received about 12-15 inquiries from all over, at least 4 or 5 of which were serious [including one from France!]. But the lucky new owner [who actually first contacted me shortly after my Prestige Showcase page ad went up] is in out there on the Left Coast, in the San Francisco Bay area.

Yet further evidence of CobraCountry's celebrated 'global reach'! My thanks to your site's effectiveness in connecting Cobra buyers to Cobra sellers!

Mark my Shelby Cobra CSX4990 SOLD! It's going to Australia.

The lucky new owner saw the car on your website and flew here to meet it in person. Where else can a private owner have access to a potential Cobra owner in Victoria, Australia?

My thanks to your site's great resources (in particular, CobraCountry's self-evident 'market reach' and Curt's photography tips) for helping to connect this very distant buyer to my beautiful blue serpent!

It all came down to those pictures—that's what really got him to fly halfway around the world to buy my Cobra!

Dear Cobra Country:

You can mark my silver/red Backdraft serpent SOLD!

My only quibble is that it sold TOO fastI wanted to keep it around while my new serpent was being finished. What will I drive in the meantime?

Fact—my car sold in less than 24 hours to its new happy owner who lives only 2 hours from me in Pennsylvania.

I waited to let you know until today because the sale wasn't "technically" complete until the new owner worked everything out on his end. But aside from those fleeting distractions, my silver serpent sold in less than a day.

Thx!! Your Cobra-less friend,

Gary Bowman

You can mark my Onyx Black Backdraft Racing Cobra (and my nice Bendron Titan enclosed trailer) SOLD! And only 9 days after my Prestige ad went up on your site.

They're now headed for the stable of a fine fellow Cobra enthusiast (and quite lucky new owner) in Chicago. He first contacted me only 3 days or so after my ad went up.

In the 9 days my ad was up on your site, I got serious responses from all over much of the nation, including enquiries from Kansas City, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and other places I don't remember.

Curt told me my car would move quickly, and he was right! Everyone commented on how gorgeous my Cobra is, their judgement based entirely on those good photographs.

It actually sold within days after my Prestige Showcase page went up, but I've been so busy I didn't let you guys know. So I continued getting serious responses long after it was off to its new owner.

I received about two dozen responses from all over the map, of which at least a dozen were very serious. I wish I'd had more E.R.A. Cobras to sell on your site!

Mark it SOLD!

Curt was certainly correct. My black Backdraft Racing Cobra sold to a first-time Cobra owner within 5 days of placing the advertisement on your CobraCountry website! The lucky new owner drove his Cobra out of state this morning to its new home in Redondo Beach, California.

And... also within those five days... I had two other full-price offers for my Cobra!

Your photography tips for “dipsticks” and the time Curt spent educating me on how to properly use my digital camera for best results produced a really accurate and "eye candy" presentation of my car.

Your website provides a valuable resource for Cobra buyers and sellers. Thank you so much for your guidance in marketing my Cobra—a super car with a new, thrilled owner.

Dear Cobra Country:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I found the Cobra of my dreams on CobraCountry a few weeks ago. I'm in northern California and that beautiful, Roush-equipped silver Superformance Cobra was in Houston, Texas.

My Cobra arrived a few days ago, and everything about the car is just as it was portrayed. It's even more drop-dead gorgeous than I expected!

Not only was the description about the Cobra accurate and comprehensive, but the photographs were so good that I was confident to purchase it without traveling to Houston to examine it in person. The seller, Andrew Lees, assured me that it was due to your site's photography tips that his photographs worked out to his (and my) advantage.

And I'd like to extend my gratitude to Curt for his assistance in the entire purchase process. Everything went like clockwork, in large part due to Curt's expertise and willingness to devote time to make sure all went smoothly for both of us.

Shelby 427 Cobras for sale by owner

Cobra/Daytona Coupe admirers: adjust your harnesses

Peter Brock sent us this YouTube video link, which features a Daytona Coupe negotiating (at speed, of course) the straights, curves, corners and surface aberrations of Germany's historic Nürburgring track [Nürburg is the town—in Germany's Rheinland—"Ring" is how Germans characterize a circular track... hence "Nürburgring"]. Just click on the hotlinked 1961 Nürburgring "Grand Prix of Europe" Rennprogramm (race program) cover at left to transport yourself to The Nürburg Ring...

Needless to say, this is a video (and AUDIO) spectacular, so adjust your volume accordingly! And here's a li'l surprise: as genuine as the camera work appears to be, it's a digitally-produced animation... and it's wunderbar! Enjoy! Curt

Shelby 427 Cobras for sale by owner

Here it is, folks: the 24k gold–bodied Kirkham 289 roadster introduced at the A.H.A.'s Fun-in-the-Sun show at Pomona.

Picked up only 13 days before at Kirkham's facility in Provo, Utah, this drivin' machine ranks as perhaps the most star-studded serpent of all time. Proud owner Darren Friedman wouldn't reveal just how many bullion bars were required for the 0.125 mil gold sheet that was used to create this glistening beauty. But there's a whole lotta bullion goin' on here.

15 March 2013: You can mark Superformance #SPO2815 SOLD! I quote the buyer: "It's evident from the effort you put into your photos that the car must be in great condition." My advice to Cobra sellers is to follow your photo tips without exception... preferably with a good camera. Pat Fultz

3 March 2013: You can mark my silver/red Backdraft serpent SOLD! My only quibble is that it sold TOO fast—I wanted to keep it around while my new serpent was being finished. Thx!! Your Cobra-less friend, Gary Bowman

11 March 2012: You can mark my Bright Green/Mecca Pearl Contemporary Cobra SOLD! Gone (as a wedding present) to a wonderful bride & groom in northern Virginia! First thing I would like to say is thanks personally to Curt Scott of Cobra Country. Curt is reason my car sold at the price it did, when it did, to the young bride-to-be it did. Curt called me up after I sent him my first round of photos and gently informed me "We have to talk." I became—with Curt's guidance—an expert at photographing Cobras. Curt's Cobra photography tips could make a professional photographer out of a blind man. His pointers are quite straightforward, and above all impart the proper methods to shoot these cars. My Cobra was selected and purchased entirely because my second round of photos really captured its beauty. The sale went flawlessly. From the first contact with Cobra Country, the photography lesson, the buyers' inquiries and every other aspect of this sale was not only professional, it was a joy. My car went for the price I wanted to some absolutely wonderful, appreciative people. All of the guidance I encountered from Cobra Country was expert and spot-on for marketing and selling a high-priced motorcar over the internet. I cannot recommend Cobra Country more highly. I was even invited to the wedding, as was Curt. Now that's how you market and sell and buy a car. See ya' in Gettysburg, Curt. Doc Fallon

Photography Tips
hotlink

You may think that all you need to know to take good photos of your Cobra is 1) how to turn on your camera, 2) how to aim it in the general direction of your serpent, and 3) how to press the shutter.

Think again.

That's the time-tested formula for capturing crappy snapshots that'll prompt all your potential buyers to flee screaming into the wilderness.

And justifiably so.

Photojournalist Curt Scott's latest revision has been carefully reworked just for you! It's a priceless investment of your time... a 'how-to manual' to very quickly enable you to capture professional-caliber photos of your Cobra or GT40.

Print it out, read it and heed it! And use the 7 'checklist' pages as you're snapping your shutter to make sure you take advantage of every expert tip.

Firefox browser
Update (23 August 2007): We had several folks report to us that certain versions of the Mozilla Firefox web browser do some strange things on CobraCountry. Specifically, images (such as the Cobra photos on this page) replace CobraCountry's main window/ frameset, instead of opening in a new window as our code mandates; when you close the photo, CobraCountry of course goes "poof!" and disappears. We received this 'fix' from Cobra aficionado Marty Shorey, of Milton Florida: "About the Firefox issue; I use Firefox with Mac and don't have a problem. You can set Firefox's preferences under "tabs" to "new page open in new tab" (or to "in a new window"); FF's new default is "in a new tab." Then when you're done drooling over the photograph, just close the picture "tab" and the browser reverts back to the tab that had CobraCountry open. It works easy for me. It's all about tabs, tabs, tabs." Curt's closing comments: you can of course set FF to open "in a new window," which I prefer, since I continually forget about "tabs" and close Firefox's entire window, expecting to be closing only the photograph—only to have CobraCountry go 'poof!'. Whatever your own preference, thank you, Marty, for resolving this dilemma.

Synthetic Oil: Rx for Long Engine Life

I keep getting questions about this ground-breaking treatise on synthetic oil that I researched and wrote in the early and mid-1980s, and first published way back in 1986.
