autograph in the front of this book.

Carroll signed this book at the Grand Opening of the Shelby-American facility at Las Vegas International Speedway in January, 1997.

The 1965 dust jacket reads:

"The Cobra Story is the exciting all-American success story of a man, his dream, and his automobile—Carroll Shelby and his sleek sports racer, the Cobra

In the racing world, automobiles bearing the famous emblems of Mercedes, Maserati, Jaguar, and Ferrari have completely dominated the speed tracks for years. Until 1964, that is, when Shelby's Ford-powered Cobras began to win race after race in the United States, finally taking the United States manufacturers' championship—just missing the world's GT championship by Ferrari of Italy.**

But, as Shelby puts it, "I think we can break the monopoly of the red Ferrari on the roads and tracks of the world. I want to produce the fastest son-of-a-gun I can for the least money—that's the American style, and I don't think any country in the world can stop us now."

This is the fascinating story of the hottest car in the world—at LeMans or on Main Street—The Cobra!
