SPECIFICATIONS

provided to us by Superformance International

Chassis: Round-tube space frame design that combines a ’60s-period persona, but conforms to modern packaging and engineering requirements. The chassis layout was originally done by Jim Price himself, and then optimized by the late Bob Negstad and Dan Bamford (of Roush Engineering) with the finite element analysis by Wes Schultz of ACT. The torsional stiffness of the chassis alone is in the order of 6,000 lbs/2238 kg per degree!

Suspension: Bob Negstad together with Don and Wes designed the nimble, fully independent suspension. The rear suspension is based on the work Bob and Klaus Arning did in the ’60s and is a truly unique and impressive unequal A-arm design front and rear. All the computer simulations were done by Wes using industry-standard ANSYS software.

Brakes: vacuum-boosted system, Australian PBR calipers with 12.8″ x 1.25″ vented rotors in front, 12″ x I” in rear. The swept area is 428 sq in, or 310 sq inches per (SAE) ton.

Shocks & Springs: Bilstein and H&R worked together to create a purpose-built set of coil-overs front & rear.

Steering: Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering; 2.5 turns lock-to-lock and provides you with a turning circle of 42 ft./12.8 metres.

Wheels & Tires: Cast alloy 18″ x 8″ wheels in front, 18″ x 10″ at the rear. The wheels are styled similar to the traditional FIA wheel. Tires of choice are:

Dunlop 9000     285 x 50 x 18 Rear      255 x 45 x 18 Front

Pirelli Pzero      285 x 45 x 18 Rear      255 x 45 x 18 Front

Coachwork: With shape and form styled by Peter Brock, the composite body is completely new, supplemented with advanced aerodynamics The windscreen is a heated and tinted shatterproof unit; the manually operated wind-up side windows are of toughened glass.

The Cockpit: The luxurious two-seater, all-black leather-trimmed cockpit is climate controlled (custom-made air conditioner with heating & cooling as well as multi-speed fans and directional control); 3-point retractable seat belts are standard; modern Stewart Warner instrument gauges include a 160 mph speedometer, 8,000 rpm tach, water, oil temp and oil pressure gauges, and ammeter and fuel gauges. These and the standard controls are ergonomically laid out. There is 35.75″ of headroom and 4″ seat travel. Other occupant-friendly features: a lockable dashboard glovebox and space for a radio; a remote immobilizer and remote keyless locks and door opening are all standard. A rollbar, a black-padded roof liner and a 14″ MotoLita quick-removable steering wheel complete the package.

Drivetrain: The Coupe is designed to accommodate a Ford 351 Windsor engine that can be stroked up to 427 cu in. The chassis was engineered for a 6-speed Tremec T56 gearbox; it’s is fitted with a 3.46:1 BTR HydraTrack differential, arguably the most modern slip-controlled differential available for road cars today. Roush Technologies developed the Roush 402 RC engine for the Beta and Gamma prototypes (the Alpha prototype competed in the 2000 ‘One Lap of America’ with an Olthoff-developed powerplant) The RC develops 501 bhp at 5,900 rpm and 580 ft/lbs of torque at 4,900 rpm, providing the prototype with amazing performance figures: 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec, the standing quarter-mile in 11.5 sec and a top speed in excess of 200 mph/322 kph.

General: Aluminum-core radiator with built-in water-to-oil cooler. The exhaust system has the original-looking sidepipes but then goes back through a rear-mounted muffler. Full “race” side mufflers are available to you as an option. The 21 gallon/80 Litre stainless-steel fuel tank is mounted over the rear axle. You have stowage lockers under the rear deck and in the rear wheel wells.
