Since
1990 Thunder Carriages has specialized in the custom fabrication
and assembly of race cars, street rods, custom-built world-class
427 roadster replicas and related components.
We've
built many cars and worked with several racing programs on the
development and maintenance of their cars, and we have proceeded
apace to develop each of our 427 replicas into a concours-quality,
hot-rodded roadster that turns heads everywhere they go.
Whether
you want a boulevard cruiser or an all-out/race-prepped menace-of-the-motorways
muscle car, we're fully experienced and prepared to build it
for you and to your complete satisfaction!

In
1999 we built a new shop and equipped it so we could produce
in-house all the various components of custom car fabrication
that you may need. That means you can come to us to build your
custom frame and suspension components, to bend tubular rollbars
and rollcages on your racecar, or for just about any other aspect
of specialized metal work. We can narrow axle housings and fabricate
other components that you may need.
In
our fiberglass shop we not only produce our 427 roadster coachwork,
we produce racecar parts for other companies and individuals--including
component parts for Porsches, Panteras, Chevy Camaros and Ford
Mustangs.
Depending
on the fiberglass project and what your requirements are, we
either hand-lay the glass or machine apply the materials, which
are hand-rolled to extract air from the composite. Lightweight
parts are produced in fiberglass or carbon fiber and vacuum-bagged
to extract excess resin.
Our
427 roadster chassis is built upon a 2"x4" jig-welded
and powder-coated, rectangular-tube frame. The frame features,
diagonal-braced front shock towers, ride-height adjustable 4-wheel
coil-over shocks, 4-wheel disc brakes and tubular twin A-arms.
Rear suspension: you can select from either Ford 9" with
adjustable 4-link for brute strength, or Jaguar IRS for superior
ride and handling.

The
coachwork is reinforced with steel at all hinge points and the
cowl for added strength. Wire conduits are added to the engine
compartment to keep wiring tidy and out of sight. Before painting
all mold-parting lines are mended and smoothed, and several coats
of urethane primer are added with block sanding between coats.
When
your car's coachwork is just right, basecoat color is applied,
along with several applications of clearcoat. When dry, the clearcoat
is color-sanded and buffed to a glistening shine. The body is
now fitted onto your detailed chassis.
The
interior of your roadster is adorned with supple, Argentine leather
seats, dashboard and side pockets, black Essex carpet, Stewart-Warner
gauges and mahogany steering wheel.
The
final touch is the reproduction windshield, latches, lights and
badges to present the authentic/ "period-correct" persona.
Turnkey
roadsters are available, with your choice of several powertrain
combinations and different price points, from mild to wild.
Thunder
Carriages
strives to use our experience to provide you with excellent service
and great products at competitive prices to all our customers.
