Contemporary Classic 427S/C Cobra roadster (CCX34005). Titled and registered as a 1967 Shelby Cobra. Bright Racing Green Mecca Pearl/silver ‘rookie’ stripes, altogether a thundering salute to The ‘Golden Age’ of FIA racing.

This Cobra “displays the proper ‘menacing’ stance,’ its persona convincingly complemented with expertly handcrafted aluminum engine-bay panels, correct hood rivets, riveted hood scoop and polished aluminum luggage compartment panels. Under 20,000 miles [32,000.km] since its painstaking completion in September 2001.

The Shelby Cobra was oft referred to as “a jet engine on a roller skate.”

The lean, mean, British Racing Green

Personal observation from Curt Scott: This is a top-rung, Legend-correct facsimile of Carroll Shelby’s serpentine track star of the mid-to-late 1960s and at vintage races in the decades ever since. During the 45+ years that I’ve attended and covered Shelby events (vintage races, rallies, carshows, museum openings, Carroll’s memento signings and special exhibitions) around the country, among all the Cobra replicas it was Peter Bayer’s Contemporary Classic serpents (that he and his crew produced at Contemporary’s facility in Mamaroneck, Westchester County, New York) that overwhelmingly wowed the purist crowd.

This green drivin’ machine is a convincingly accurate specimen of Peter’s especially Legend-faithful reptile replicas. With such attention to authenticity, and with body tooling taken from none other than an original Shelby American 427SC Cobra, this is a veritable tour de force among Cobra replicas of the past half century.

Put succinctly this emerald beauty is as close as one can get to possessing (and actually driving!) an original BRG 427 Street/Competition Shelby Cobra of yesteryear without shelling out a wagonload of Krugerrands.

The main frame rails of Contemporary Classic’s chassis are jig-assembled and constructed of 4-inch round-tube mild steel with 1/8″ wall thickness… original-based and very similar in appearance to that of the original AC and Shelby American Cobras, but more rigid and robust. The chassis also boasts…

  • all chassis and suspension parts are powder coated or polished
  • Delrin bushings
  • stainless steel jack plate
  • four polished Aldan adjustable shocks

Back in the late 1990s one writer rhapsodized in a feature article: “The Contemporary Classic Cobra has become a collectible classic in its own right.”

You’ll encounter no downside issues with this serpentine drivin’ machine… only exhilarating driving & touring adventures and innumerable encounters with fellow admirers of Carroll Shelby’s rolling and racing masterpieces.
