Shelby 427SC Cobra, CSX4051. ‘Correct’ Wimbledon White/rich black leather upholstery. A lean, mean, ‘clean,’ serpentine drivin’ machine.

Expertly built and sorted out by Billy Andrews of famed HRE Motorcars, Freeport, New York.

This mechanical thoroughbred is in immaculate condition, and with only 2,342 gentle miles [3,800 kms] logged. It’s as fast and nimble and manageable as a street car can be. And even though it was engineered and constructed with high-performance road and track driving capabilities, it has never been tracked or raced.

This Cobra’s engine is a Ford 358 cid NASCAR V8, selected from a pool of similar powerplants built by Ernie Elliott Inc. for Carroll and Billy Andrews [this was to test the waters for the later Bill Elliott/Carroll Shelby Edition]; it delivers a robust 586 hp. Freshly serviced.

Engine is mated to a TKO 5-speed gearbox and a rugged Dana 44 [3.73:1-ratio] posi unit. This Cobra is distinctive in that it was the first (#1) of two prototypes developed to move the goalposts forward to use some more updated and newer equipment and yet still boast the look and feel and menacing persona of a Legend-era original.

Rich black leather upholstery, slide-adjustable seats, Moto-Lita hardwood-rimmed steering wheel with Cobra center emblem on horn cap; blackfaced Smiths Instruments gauges [replete with correct reverse-winding speedometer and Lucas toggle switches. Short-throw reverse-lockout shifter.

Pushbutton start, fuel cutoff safety lever, mats, tonneau cover, fire extinguisher (mounted on the bulkhead), map pocket in each door. 12V kill switch and FIA mirror (also powder-coated).
