On January 3, 2022, I ordered a new Superformance ‘Street Version’ MkIII Roadster, SPO3626. [Street Version: that is to say, this honest-to-God hot rod is equipped with undercar muffled exhaust instead of sidepipes, no rollbar, ‘correct Street layout’ gauges, chromed bumperettes, and perhaps a few other items]. In all, this more civilized serpent is much sleeker in profile than an S/C (Street/Competition) model… just feast your eyes on that broadside shot of this sleek road rocket in the photo above.

Curt once characterized Shelby’s Street variant this way, “The 427 ‘Street Version’ Cobra is that iconic 427SC muscle car w/o the tattoos” ].

It’s powered by a new, Shelby American 351W/427 cid Stage II 565 horsepower engine topped with Jim Inglese–prepared Weber 8-stack 48 IDA downdraft carburetor, a Tremec TKX 5 speed (close ratio) transmits breathtaking power & torque. My Porsche Midnight Blue Cobra is a stunning, blistering-fast ride with a rare, 1965 Virginia title. I have $139,600 invested into this sleek, ‘Street Version’ serpent.

It boasts an original-style hardwood-rimmed steering wheel and 427 “Street” dash with Legend-correct instrument gauges and gauge layout.

Optional equipment includes Dynamat sound deadening/ heat shield; 15” Halibrand-style wheels, polished SS (stainless steel) spinners with Mickey Thompson rubber; passenger-side exterior mirror; black ceramic–coated headers; adjustable passenger seat; heated seats; under-dash 12V power panel w/digital voltmeter; and a snapless tonneau cover.

I ordered a fuel delivery upgrade consisting of an Aeromotive ‘Phantom’  in-tank electric fuel pump; Aeromotive Universal Bypass fuel pressure regulator; fuel bypass and return line; fuel pressure gauge (0–15 psi); and fuel cutoff switch (replaced windshield wiper fluid switch) on the dashboard.

The issue is: I have a two-car garage, but not enough community or county support to build a stand-alone second one. My wife’s car and my Cobra occupy it. My Mustang Shelby GT sits outside in salty, brackish air from the lower Rappahannock River. The Shelby GT is my daily driver and I’m anxious over long-term weather impact on my ’Stang
